Getting out of debt begins with getting yourself financially educated, learning the rules of the game you're playing every single day.
Are you sick and tired of feeling like your finances are out of control and you're Are you finally ready to take control of your finances? The day I knew I was ready to make big changes I started to get clued up. Where I began... with books!
I started reading everything I could get my hands on about money, and slowly book by book, things began to make sense and I was for the first time in my life beginning to understand the game I'd been losing at for years.
Today I want to share my top 3 book recommendations to get you started or to propel you forward on your financial journey.
These aren't random picks. Each of these books shifted something major for me. I believe these are 3 of the best finance books to get started with.
1. The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason
I absolutely love this book and have gone back to it time and time again. It's so easy to read whilst you learn the core never changing money principles.
It is written as a series of parables set in ancient Babylon, which makes it feel more like storytelling than a finance textbook.
What I loved about this book is that it strips money down to its most basic principles. Pay yourself first. Live below your means. Make your money work for you. The timeless principles of wealth.
If you're just starting out and you've never read a money book before, start here. It's short, it's engaging, and it will give you the foundational principles you need without making you feel lost in technical language.
2. Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
This was the first money book I read and it completely hooked me on wanting to learn more about money.
In this book I really learnt about assets and learnt a lot through Kiyosaki's comparisons of his 'rich dad' vs his 'poor dad'.
Looking back now after reading dozens more books, Rich Dad Poor Dad feels quite basic. But that's actually its strength. It's written in simple, clear language that won't trip you up, and it's designed to change your mindset rather than teach you technical skills.
If you're ready to start questioning some of the beliefs you've held about money and what it means to build wealth, this is the book to read second.
3. The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel
This book is different from the first two because it's less about what to do with money and more about why we do what we do with money.
Housel explores the psychological and emotional side of money management. Why do we overspend even when we know we shouldn't? Why do some people with high incomes still feel broke? What role does our upbringing and our values play in how we handle money?
If you've already started learning the practical steps but you're still struggling to stick to them, or if you want to understand the "why" behind your money habits, read this one. It's a powerful way to shift your mindset and better understand why you behave the way you do with money.
If You're Ready to Supercharge Your Financial Journey
Get your reading glasses ready. These three books are a phenomenal place to start your financial journey.
Spring is in the air, so why not begin spring cleaning your financial life, one book at a time.
I promise you, investing time in your financial education is one of the best decisions you'll ever make. These books won't pay your bills directly, but they'll give you the knowledge and mindset you need to build a financial life that actually works.
Until next time, my friend.
